The Tuten Family
Originally from South Carolina, Rye attended Clemson University, graduating in 1999, before heading to the University of Mississippi School of Law, where he earned his degree in 2003.
Lainey grew up in south Louisiana, surrounded by family, faith, and the kind of hospitality that turns neighbors into lifelong friends.
The summer of 2001 turned out to be life-changing for both. They met while working at Camp Greystone in North Carolina—Rye on staff, Lainey as a counselor (Rye likes to clarify that she was definitely not a camper!). That friendship quickly became something more, and in the summer of 2002, they were married and after graduating Law School, they began their life together in south Louisiana.
From 2003 to 2012, Rye built a career as an attorney handling medical malpractice cases and general insurance litigation. In 2012, he took an entrepreneurial leap, opening his own real estate closing law firm and title insurance agency. For nearly a decade, he guided clients through thousands of closings, helping families and businesses take important steps toward their future.
Life in Louisiana was rich with friends, family, and tradition, but in 2021, Rye and Lainey felt called to make a change. They wanted to give their family even more opportunities—to deepen their faith through an active church community, to provide more academic opportunities for their children, and to be surrounded by a network of friends and mentors. That’s what led them to Mountain Brook, Alabama.
It didn’t take long to know they had made the right decision. In Mountain Brook, they found their people and their forever home.
The Tuten family is made up of four children—each with their own unique energy and passions:
Harrison (11th grade) is a dedicated soccer player for Mountain Brook High School and an avid golfer who spends as much time as possible on the course.
Camp (9th grade) plays basketball for Mountain Brook Junior High and, like his older brother, never turns down a round of golf.
Hatten (6th grade) shines in tumbling and cheer, bringing a lively spark and friendly smile to everything she does.
English (4th grade) has a competitive spirit that makes her a force on the basketball court, and she’s always ready for the next challenge.
Lainey pours her heart into both family and community. She works as a substitute teacher in the Resource Room at Crestline Elementary, providing encouragement and support to students who need it most. Rye stays involved in youth sports, having coached basketball for Camp, Hatten, and English.
The whole family is active in the life of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where faith is not just a Sunday tradition but a daily guide.
Though they left Louisiana behind, they carried with them a love for good food, lively music, and hosting gatherings that bring people together. In many ways, those very traditions are woven into the culture of Birmingham—making it feel familiar from the start. Here, they’ve discovered a community that blends Southern warmth with energy and opportunity, a place where neighbors become friends and friends become family.
For Rye, Lainey, and their children, Birmingham isn’t just where they live—it’s where they belong. It’s the perfect backdrop for their faith, friendships, sports, and celebrations. And as they look ahead, they’re excited to continue building a life here that’s full of connection, growth, and joy.
